Development of the King Street Recreation Complex

Hanover, Massachusetts

Overview

The Town of Hanover, Massachusetts has engaged Environmental Partners Group to perform engineering and supplemental services for field investigations and design activities related to the development of the King Street Recreation Complex.  A significant component of a recreation master plan for the Town is the redevelopment of an 80 acre site on King Street, adjacent to Forge Pond, as a multi-use use site involving both passive and active recreational activities including a combination of baseball fields, softball fields, general purpose soccer/lacrosse fields, and walking trails. This site was formerly used as farmland, consisting of a combination of open fields, wooded areas, and wetlands.

Approach and Solution

At the outset, Environmental Partners prepared an Existing Conditions Plan for the Town.  The Existing Conditions Plan included the following: 1)  wetlands delineation survey; 2) site topographic plan, existing conditions from the GIS base map; 3) surface and subsurface soils data, and; 4) irrigation water needs for the developed site.

Using the existing conditions plan, Environmental Partners then developed and produced a final schematic site plan. The schematic plan incorporated wetlands and other environmental constraints, identified the location of all fields, trails, roads, parking facilities, and playground areas, and potential structures on the site. It also showed the location of proposed stormwater management structures and irrigation facilities.

Once the Schematic Site Plan was produced, Environmental Partners developed a site plan and supporting documents suitable for obtaining all necessary local, state, and federal permits.  Final drainage and grading plans and utility plans for the site, and detailed construction cost estimates, will also be provided to support upcoming construction efforts.

Environmental Partners also conducted detailed geophysical investigations and bedrock drilling to successfully locate a high capacity bedrock well that will provide all necessary irrigation water for the extensive complex.
